The Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India (SPSTI), committed to spreading scientific knowledge and awareness, organized a captivating public lecture on May 6, 2025, at Tagore Theatre, Sector-18, Chandigarh. The lecture, titled \u201cFrom Ripples to Galaxies: Using Supercomputers to Unravel the Story of Our Universe,\u201d was delivered by Professor Arif Babul, an internationally acclaimed astrophysicist from Victoria University, Canada, renowned for his work on cosmic structure and galaxy formation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The event drew an overwhelming response, with more than 1,000 students, educators, and science enthusiasts in attendance. Professor Babul provided profound insights into how modern supercomputers are being harnessed to simulate and understand the universe\u2019s evolution\u2014from the Big Bang to the formation of galaxies and cosmic structures. The presentation was replete with beautiful pics of The deep space with the Hubble and James Webb Space telescopes.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The session was chaired by Professor Kulinder Pal Singh, a distinguished astrophysicist from IISER Mohali and TIFR Mumbai , who lauded Professor Babul\u2019s pioneering work and described the lecture as both enlightening and inspiring.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The event was priviledged by the presence of eminent scientists, academicians, and dignitaries, including Professor J.S. Bagla, noted astrophysicist, Professor Arun K. Grover, former Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Professor Rajni Bhalla,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In his remarks, Mr. Dharam Vir, President of SPSTI and former Chief Secretary of Haryana, along with Professor Kaya Dharamvir, Secretary General of SPSTI, reaffirmed the society’s mission of making science and technology accessible to all. They emphasized that such initiatives are vital in inspiring young minds and fostering a scientific temper in society.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Prof. Arun Grover, Vice President of the Society dedicated today’s lecture to the memory of noted scientist and Ex- ISRO Chairperson Dr. K Kasturirangan who had passed away on April 25, 2025. This was a tribute by the Chandigarh Institutions to the legendary space scientist and policymaker of India.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
